Contemporary Florence cannot be separated from her glorious
past. Hordes of tourists which crowd into her streets and
museums are perhaps more aware of traffic, fumes and each
other than they are of the city's visual language, which
quietly unveils her history as the birth place of the
Renaissance. Yet the clues are there, buildings still stand
and frescoed cloisters remain much as they were in the 15th
century. Here we can follow the thread of the history of the
Renaissance. In no other place is the wealth of artistic
treasures from another age left so completely intact. This
gives us the opportunity to read this city. It's much better
than reading a book, and the stories leave a lasting
impression.
